Social Media “Titles” I Want Burned
Or why you should just stick to “manager” or “associate” or “director” for everything ever.
1) Expert
You cannot, I repeat, you cannot, be an expert in a field this recently created that evolves this fast and covers the sheer amount of ground that it does. Also, the further it keeps evolving, the less proud you would be on having expertise on gradually obsolete sites from our radar like MySpace. (It’s not coming back people, it’s not.)
2) Ninja
Because nothing says “take this career choice seriously” than the mental image of a guy running around all in black with a sword.
3) Maven/Gal About Town/Cutie
Oh I get it. “Media Maven” has a nice rhythm to it. And “SM Gal About Town” is perky in an updated Carrie Bradshaw sense. But can I just take this moment to say… don’t. Please don’t. To either of these terms. I added “Cutie” for shits and giggs but I guarantee you somebody out there probably does refer to themselves as such.
4) Pinner
For the Pinterest set. Look at you. You took an image that you (probably) don’t own one iota of copyright to and “repinned” it virtually. And included that title on your business card which is the last place something like that should ever be. In the words of Sassy Gay Friend, look at your life, look at your choices.
